THEWAVE F L O R I D A C R E D I T U N I O N The Impacts of Small Business Saturday November 26 is Small Business Saturday, a day created in 2010 to recognize small businesses and the important roles they play in communities. Falling between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the celebration also encourages consumers to consider small businesses before turning to major retailers as the holiday shopping season debuts. Small businesses play large roles in local economies. According to 2021 statistics, for every $100 spent locally, $68 returns to the community. In comparison, spending the same amount at a national chain only generates $43 in local economic contributions. If every family in the United States spent $10 more each month at local small businesses, more than $9.3 billion would be returned to our American economy. Another reason to shop local: small, independent businesses donate 250% more to their communities’ causes than do large businesses. The impacts of shopping local have lasting ripple effects felt close to home. During Small Business Saturday last year, spending among American consumers who shopped at independent stores and restaurants reached $23.3 billion, an 18% increase from 2020. We encourage you to join the millions of shoppers who value positively impacting their communities by supporting local this Small Business Saturday and beyond!
